The Islamic Da’wah Council of the Philippines (IDCP), the official Islamic body that grants Halal certification to all Philippine-made products, recently declared all Pilmico flour and Diamond yeasts Halal-certified last February 03, 2003,

The certification came after a plant inspection conducted by the IDCP in Iligan City where Pilmico’s flour milling  and yeast manufacturing plants are located. All Pilmico flour sold under the following brands have been declared Halal: Wooden Spoon, Sun Moon Star, Sunshine, Glowing Sun, Kutitap, Gold Star and Megastar. Meanwhile, both Diamond Instant Dry Yeast and Active Dry Yeast of Pilmico Mauri Foods have also been certified.

 Halal is an Arabic work which means lawful or allowed. Halal foods are foods that are permitted for consumption and production by Muslims under the Islamic Law that do not consist of anything which deemed unlawful under the Law.

 Pilmico Foods Corporation, is an Aboitiz–owned company and is one of the country’s premier flour. On the other hand, Pilmico-Mauri Foods Corporation is a fifty-fifty joint venture of Pilmico Foods Corporation and Burns-Philp & Company Ltd. of Australia, one of the world’s biggest manufacturer of yeast.
