Commitment
Local folks got a chance to try their hand in
baking in a seminar recently held in the town of Jimenez, Misamis
Occidental last June 18 – 20. Organized by the local office of the
Department of Trade and Industry, this 3-day seminar was conducted
by Pilmico Quality Assurance staff Sam Cabanilla and Dan Labucana.
This
seminar was offered primarily to the agrarian reform beneficiaries
from Jimenez and neighboring towns. The goal: to teach them the art
and science of baking, with the end objective of providing a
possible source of employment and livelihood.
The seminar participants were taught the fundamentals of baking ---
from wheat and wheat milling down to actual baking of basic bread
recipes. They proudly demonstrated their newfound skills during the
graduation ceremonies as they displayed the different baked products
they made themselves.
Co-sponsoring the event were the Department of Agrarian Reform, the
Local Government of Jimenez, and the Jimenez Bakery Association.
