Pilmico’s Enerwrench team bagged the gold award, non-production category, during the 27th Productivity Improvement Circles National Convention held at Crown Regency Suites-Mactan, Cebu on September 13-14, 2007. Their winning entry was about the ELIMINATION OF PREMATURE DAMAGE OF FILTER BLOWER BL 302 DUE TO BUILD-UP OF PRESSURE AT C-MILL DUST COLLECTOR.

The Productivity Improvement Circles National Convention (PICNC) is an annual gathering of companies involved in quality and productivity initiatives. Several quality and productivity improvement projects and best practices of various organizations in different sectors are presented in this event. This is also an arena for networking with experts from a wide array of businesses. The chosen theme for this year's conference is “Quality and Productivity: Reaping the Gains, Reinventing Successes.”

There are three categories in the search for the most outstanding projects namely the production, non-production and team. All participants are subjected to grueling question and answer from a distinguished set of judges during their one-on-one interview and presentation proper.

Four companies joined the non-production category this year. Aside from Pilmico, Panasonic Communications Philippine Corp. also got the gold award while Honda Cars Makati, Inc. and Star Motor Manufacturing Industries, Inc. were given the silver award. Criteria for judging are Problem Identification & Selection, Root Cause Analysis, Selection of Best Alternative Solutions, Implementation, Evaluation of Results, Standardization, Self-Evaluation and Future Planning and Oral & Written Presentation. The gold award is given to any team who garners a rating of 90 and above, silver for 85 to 89.99 and bronze for 84.99 and below. Truly a feat to reckon with!

As early as March 2006, Enerwrench started to work on the identified problem. Pilmico Iligan’s steering committee scrutinized the findings, identified causes and final recommendations on separate occasions. The team won the 2006 Best QIT Project in Pilmico. This paved the way for them to represent the company to the Regional Quality Circle Convention where they were chosen as Mindanao’s bet to this year’s national convention.

During the three-day event, the whole team was subjected to a lot of challenges from the judges. On their first day, the judges interviewed and asked them very difficult questions. They were also asked to make last minute revisions on their presentation, which can wreak havoc on any team’s composure. But, as world class Pilmicans, they took on the challenge with confidence. They knew that with their innate knowledge on the problem, analytical thinking abilities and teamwork, they could deliver the necessary changes and come up as winners.

True enough, all their hard work, dedication and teamwork resulted in the gold that they truly deserve. Another world-class act from a world-class team!
