Pilmico’s improved premium hog feed brand to help swine farmers
Pilmico introduces a new and improved formulation of premium hog feeds Elite XP to strengthen the growth, health, and reproduction of pigs.
The food and agribusiness unit of the Aboitiz Group, Pilmico Animal Nutrition Corporation (Pilmico), introduces a new and improved formulation for its premium hog feed line, Elite XP, that improves hogs’ growth, health, and reproduction.
Elite XP was revamped to provide a better nutrition solution for hogs as an answer to the continued threats to swine health. The leveled-up formulation contains new features, Immuno-Growth Factor and Piglet+ Technology, designed to strengthen the health and improve the growth of pigs and optimize breeder pigs’ full genetic potential.
Pilmico conducted a nationwide Elite XP roadshow which was attended by swine farmers, agribusiness store owners and veterinarians, among others.
With Elite XP’s new formula that helps speed up the efficient growth and productivity of pigs, Pilmico aims to thrust the recovery of the swine industry and help swine farmers meet the country’s high demand for pork.
According to Joana Jayson-Pequiro, Assistant Vice President of Nutrition and Research of Pilmico, this is one of their contributions as they push for food security in the Philippines. “To continue delivering our mission to Feed Humanity, Pilmico is committed to being at the forefront of transforming our products and services and helping our partners in the swine industry to reach their full potential. As a Partner for Growth, this is one of the many initiatives we have in store as we continue on our mission to achieve a sustainable and food-secure country,” she said.
Pilmico’s Elite XP was launched across the country, spanning from Ilocos Region to the province of Zamboanga through a 2-month long roadshow. A total of more than 2,300 swine farmers, agribusiness store owners, local government officials and veterinarians attended Elite XP’s launch events.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is Elite XP and what prompted its reformulation?
Elite XP is a premium hog feed line that underwent a significant formulation upgrade in response to ongoing threats to swine health in the Philippines. The reformulation was driven by the need to provide a stronger nutritional solution for hogs at a time when the local swine industry was under pressure — from disease outbreaks like African Swine Fever to rising demand for pork. The improved product targets three interconnected performance areas: faster and more efficient growth, stronger overall health, and optimized reproductive outcomes for breeder pigs.
Q2: What are the two new technological features in the upgraded Elite XP formula?
The reformulated Elite XP introduces two proprietary features. The first, Immuno-Growth Factor, is designed to strengthen the immune system while simultaneously supporting growth — addressing both health resilience and productivity in a single component. The second, Piglet+ Technology, focuses specifically on improving outcomes for young pigs and helping breeder animals realize their full genetic potential. Together, these two innovations target the entire production cycle, from piglets through breeding stock, making the product applicable across multiple stages of a commercial swine operation rather than a single phase.
Q3: How does an improved hog feed formulation contribute to national food security?
The Philippines faces persistent domestic pork supply challenges, partly due to disease-related herd losses that have reduced pig populations and driven up retail prices. A feed formulation that accelerates efficient growth and improves herd productivity directly addresses supply-side constraints — more hogs reaching market weight in better condition means more pork available to meet consumer demand. Feed quality is therefore not just an animal nutrition concern; it is a lever in the broader effort to stabilize food supply, reduce import dependence, and support the livelihoods of the hundreds of thousands of Filipino farming households involved in swine production.
Q4: What does the nationwide roadshow reveal about how agribusiness companies engage the swine farming sector?
The two-month roadshow spanning regions from Ilocos to Zamboanga — reaching over 2,300 participants including swine farmers, agribusiness store owners, local government officials, and veterinarians — reflects a deliberate strategy of direct, on-the-ground engagement rather than purely commercial distribution. Bringing product information directly to farmers and their support networks builds trust, accelerates adoption, and ensures that end users understand how to apply the product effectively. The diversity of attendees also signals that improving swine production outcomes requires aligning multiple stakeholders simultaneously, not just the farmer at the point of feed purchase.
Q5: Why is the breeder pig segment specifically highlighted as a target for the new formulation?
Breeder pigs represent the foundation of herd productivity — their reproductive performance determines litter sizes, weaning rates, and the overall genetic quality of the animals entering the grow-out phase. Underperforming breeders create compounding inefficiencies downstream: smaller litters, weaker piglets, and longer intervals between cycles all reduce the output of the entire operation. A feed formulation that helps breeders reach their full genetic potential addresses this upstream bottleneck, multiplying the productivity benefit across every subsequent phase of production. For commercial swine farmers managing tight margins, optimizing breeder performance is one of the highest-leverage interventions available.
