Pilmico and Iligan City Government Boost Farmers with New Corn Drying Facility

Iligan City, Philippines – Pilmico Foods Corporation, the food and agribusiness subsidiary of Aboitiz Foods, alongside Aboitiz Foundation Inc., has partnered with the Iligan City Government to launch a new initiative to strengthen the local corn value chain. This collaboration focuses on enhancing post-harvest infrastructure for yellow corn farmers in the region.

At the heart of this project is a new ₱1.5 million corn dryer facility. This vital infrastructure will directly benefit corn farmers from the hinterland barangays of Mandulog, Digkilaan, Rogongon, Dulag, Hindang, Kabacsanan, Bunawan, and Mainit. By significantly reducing moisture content, the facility will prevent spoilage, allow for safer storage, and enable earlier, more efficient harvests. This ultimately improves corn quality and marketability.

The farmers, now organized under the Iligan Agriculture Cooperative, will also gain improved access to buyers, essential services, and long-term livelihood opportunities.

This initiative is part of Project Silk, Pilmico’s inclusive agribusiness program launched in 2017. Originally a buy-back program for yellow corn, Project Silk has evolved into a comprehensive model providing inclusive sourcing, capability-building, and long-term livelihood support. The addition of this post-harvest facility further expands the program’s reach and impact across Mindanao, offering a holistic support system covering production, entrepreneurship, quality assurance, and market integration.
