Pilmico launches ‘The Care Package’

When disaster strikes, two problems immediately surface: hunger and malnutrition.

According to Pilmico’s press release, the common go-to relief donation for communities contains rice, noodles, and coffee. These are good but simply do not carry the nutritional value and easy preparation needed during times of need and rapidly worsening starvation.

With four million underweight Filipino children and eight million chronically energy deficient adolescents, adults, and elderly, it seems like the road to true recuperation remains nothing but a pipe dream.

With all these challenges converging at such a very critical moment, Pilmico Foods Corp., the food subsidiary of Aboitiz Equity Ventures, has introduced The Care Package (TCP) — a smarter and sustainable food supply alternative that addresses hunger and nutrition particularly in times of disasters.

This innovative product was launched in September as Pilmico takes part in the upcoming Visayas Area Business Conference (VABC) in Ormoc, Leyte—one of the provinces hit hardest by Typhoon Yolanda back in November 2013.

The Care Package contains Pilmico’s High Energy Biscuits, tasty vanilla biscuits packed with 450 kilo calories of energy, equal to one full meal. The food inside the care package contains proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins A, B1 to B12, C, D3, and E, iodine, iron, magnesium and calcium.

Just one pack can effectively nourish an ailing individual, especially during times when viable food is scarce. Sealed compactly in a light container, each pack can be stacked and transported quickly from one place to another.
